i had long suspected that the christian right would turn a blind eye to giuliani's acceptance of abortion--supposedly the unshakable litmus test for evangelicals--because of his perceived strength on national security. so much for principles.

robertson now backs a supporter of fetus-killing, convict-killing, war-mongering, and detainee-torturing. so much for the culture of life.

by the way, remember when giuliani jumped down ron paul's throat for suggesting that U.S. policy in the mideast was partly responsible for the blowback of 9/11? yet he's apparently fine cozying up to man who said this:

JERRY FALWELL: The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way--all of them who have tried to secularize America--I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur...

a tight response to the endorsement (reported by marc):

"Social conservatives such as Pat Robertson who back pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage candidates do a disservice to the conservative movement. At the end of the day, we have to stand for something, or our movement has no purpose.”

-Steve Scheffler, president of the Iowa Christian Alliance (the most powerful grassroots organization in the state)

do you see how vigorously robertson is shaking giuliani's hand? all credit goes to his age-defying protein pancakes
